FLU VACCINATIONS FOR ADULTS REGISTERED AT HAMSTREET SURGERY

Aged 65 and over or in the 'at risk' categories* (specified below)

All patients who will be aged 65 and over as of the 31st March 2024, and patients in an 'at risk' group aged 18-64, can make an appointment for a flu vaccination (see below).

Aged 50-64 (not in the 'at risk' categories listed below*)

If you are aged 50-64, but not in an at risk group, currently you are not eligible for a flu vaccination, but if this changes we will inform you. Please do not contact the surgery at this time as we will not be able to offer you an appointment.

The flu vaccination is the best protection for you, and those around you, which is why it is offered for free for those most at risk.

    *Eligible 'At Risk' Categories:

  • Any respiratory disease
  • Any condition requiring steroids
  • Asthma on daily preventative medication
  • Weakened immune system (such as Cancer Treatment or HIV/AIDS)
  • Chronic neurological disease (such as Parkinson’s or motor neurone)
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Kidney/liver disease
  • History of a stroke
  • Splenic dysfunction
  • Patients living in long stay residential care homes
  • All pregnant women
  • Patients with a BMI of 40 and above
  • Main carer of an older or disabled person

FLU VACCINATIONS FOR CHILDREN

For patients/carers of two and three year olds, you should receive an invitation for your child to have the vaccination at their GP practice before the winter. If you haven't heard by November, please contact the practice directly to make an appointment.

For primary school-aged children, a vaccination session will be held at school during the autumn term. Your local healthcare team will contact you via the school. PLEASE NOTE: we CANNOT vaccinate this age range at the surgery unless they fit into an 'at risk' category*.

Any queries or questions regarding the school flu schedule please contact 0300 123 5205.
