At Hamstreet Surgery we are changing the way we deal with firearms licensing medical factual reports based on advice from our union (British Medical Association) and working with local and national police. We recognise as a rural practice that firearms are part of a rural way of life. Equally it is clear that there are obvious safety concerns surrounding lethal weapons and a recognition that health matters could be of concern to the police and public.
How much will it cost?
This request falls outside of NHS contracted work for GPs and, in a similar way to other services, we will charge a fee of £74.00 (+VAT) to reflect GP and administration time taken to complete it. Fees can be paid with cash or card when the forms are submitted at the surgery. We do not accept cheques.
The forms will not be completed until the fee has been paid to avoid unnecessary adminstrative work. This may cause re-issuing of the licence to be delayed, or your licence to be revoked.
Once the fee has been paid, the report will be completed and you will be contacted when it is available for collection.
How long will it take to complete?
Having received a request from the police and your payment, we are obliged to provide information regarding your medical records within 21 days.
We receive a large number of these requests which are quite burdensome and impact on our ability to deliver NHS services, as such we are not able to guarantee earlier completion of any non-NHS work to make it fair to all.
